Bold Striped Scarf


Standard spacing.

Knit in Stockinette and Crisscross Stitches.


Yarn: Brown Sheep Lambs Pride worsted, but can use any worsted or bulky yarn 

85% wool and 15% mohair

Gauge is 3sts=1  3.5 rows=1

Green (2) skeins and Red (2) skeins

Approximate finished size=8 X 90



Needed: small gauge Knitting Board with 22+ needles ( Authentic Knitting Board 10", 18" or 28" size)

Knit hook, Crochet hook


When changing colors, tie in new yarn at 2nd needle.

Cast On 22 sts in Color 1 green. 

Lay anchor yarn.

Knit in Stockinette for 16 rows.  Cut yarn.

Tie in color 2 red.

Change to Crisscross st.

Knit 12 rows.  

Tie in green yarn.  Cut and knot red yarn.

Knit in Stockinette for 12 rows.  Cut yarn.

Tie in red. 

Knit in crisscross for 12 rows.  Cut yarn.

Keep alternating the sections:

Green yarn in Stockinette Stitch for 12 rows.

And red yarn in Crisscross Stitch for 12 rows.

 Do this stripe pattern for a total of 12 times.  This will create a total of 24 stripes that are 3.5 wide.  Total length of 84 plus the end sections that are 4.5 wide.  Total sections will be 14 including the end sections for total length of approximately 90-94.

If you choose to make a shorter scarf, eliminate some of the stripe repeats.

End with green in Stockinette for 16 rows.

Bind Off of knitting board and at anchor yarn.

This is really a fun scarf.  It can be made in many types of yarns for variation.

Try it in Red and White for the Holidays, or in School Colors for your favorite grads.
