Determining Gauge

The knitting board is designed with 2 rows of needles.  Each stitch consists of 2 needles, one on each board, meaning, each set of 2 needles, facing each other, is a stitch.  So, a knitting board with 50 stitches would have 50 needles on each board. This is important to understand when you start working, because most times, what you do on one board, you will want to do on the other needle of the stitch. There will be some exceptions to that rule.

The needles do not change size like you would do when knitting with various sizes of knitting needles.

The size of the stitch with a knitting board is determined by 2 main factors -
  • The distance between the needles on the boards

  • and the spacing between the 2 rows of needles.  This can be adjusted with the spacer which helps to create more variations in the size of the stitch.
